SIT Arrests Former TDB Officer S. Sreekumar in Sabarimala Gold Loss Case
December 17, 2025
The special investigation team (SIT) probing the Sabarimala gold loss case arrested former Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) administrative officer S. Sreekumar on Wednesday. His arrest follows the Kerala High Court denying his anticipatory bail two weeks ago. The court also rejected the anticipatory bail plea of former TDB secretary S. Jayasree. The court warned that allowing bail to these accused "would collapse" the entire gold loss probe and make the investigation "meaningless." It noted that Mr. Sreekumar and Ms. Jayasree knew the plates were originally gold-clad but signed documents calling them copper. The SIT is investigating the loss of gold from the gold-clad plates on the Dwarapalaka idols and the temple's sanctum sanctorum door frames. Mr. Sreekumar is the seventh person arrested in these cases. Earlier arrests include main accused Unnikrishnan Potty and former TDB presidents N. Vasu and A. Padmakumar.
