As Christmas and New Year draw near, Hyderabad's usually busy IT corridor is experiencing a sharp drop in traffic. Cyberabad traffic police reports show vehicle numbers falling steadily by mid-December, with expectations of further dip as offices reduce staff. On the Radisson Hotel stretch between Le Meridien and Gachibowli flyover, total vehicles fell from 1,86,886 on December 1 to 1,26,033 by December 15, a drop of more than one-third. Car traffic dropped nearly 30%, while two-wheelers and buses also saw steep declines. Similar falls were seen on the Hitec City Road–Yashoda Hospital stretch and the Cable Bridge–Ikea corridor, where vehicle counts reduced by around 27%. Bus movements sharply decreased, with drops as high as 46% on some routes. The Shaikpet–Raidurgam stretch recorded a drop from 2,22,396 to 1,52,686 vehicles in the same period. "The traffic is decreasing by 10-15% per day and will reduce further as fewer employees are travelling during the festive season," said T. Sai Manohar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Madhapur. Monthly data also confirms this pattern, with slight reductions in cumulative vehicle counts across key routes from early November to mid-December. Commuters welcome the change. Aditya Sharma, working in Gachibowli, said, "I am now reaching my office in 20 minutes, which would otherwise take 40 minutes during peak hours." Prithvi Kumar noted, "I am saving at least 15 to 20 minutes every day," although some traffic hotspots still remain. This festive slowdown is giving Hyderabad’s IT corridor a rare breath of fresh air, making daily commutes quicker and less stressful.
