Winter Chill Hits Punjab and Haryana as Fog Covers Region; Hoshiarpur Coldest at 4.8°C

The winter chill grew stronger on December 19, 2025, in Punjab and Haryana as dense fog covered many areas. Hoshiarpur in Punjab was the coldest place, with a minimum temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius, said the local meteorological department.
Fog reduced visibility at several spots in both states during the morning. Pathankot recorded 8.7 degrees Celsius, while Bathinda dropped to 5.2 degrees. Faridkot and Gurdaspur noted lows of 5.8 and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Other cities in Punjab recorded these lows: Amritsar at 9.3 degrees Celsius, which is 5 degrees above normal; Ludhiana at 10.6 degrees; and Patiala at 9.6 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, had a minimum of 7.9 degrees Celsius.
In Haryana, Ambala saw a low of 10.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal. Hisar’s temperature fell to 9.5 degrees Celsius. Karnal recorded 10.2 degrees, Narnaul 5.1 degrees, and Rohtak, Bhiwani, and Sirsa logged lows of 9.2, 6, and 7.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The chilly weather and foggy conditions are expected to continue, affecting visibility and daily life in both states.
