Alleged Bondi Shooters Visited Philippine Firearms Shop Before Sydney Attack
December 19, 2025
Two men accused of the deadly Bondi Beach shooting in Sydney spent four weeks in Davao City, Philippines, before returning to Australia just two weeks before the attack. Sajid Akram, 50, and his son Naveed Akram, 24, stayed at the GV hotel in Davao from late October to 28 November. During this time, Sajid visited a firearms shop, said police regional director Leon Victor Rosete. Authorities are investigating the suspects' movements, contacts, and activities while in the country. CCTV footage shows the pair doing a "jog walk" around their hotel for about an hour, possibly for physical conditioning. Staff at the hotel said the men repeatedly extended their stay, raising questions about whether they waited for someone who never arrived. National security adviser Eduardo Año pledged a thorough probe and close cooperation with Australian officials. Police confirmed the suspects did not visit any firing range during their stay. Sajid Akram was killed by police during the attack, while Naveed faces 59 charges, including 15 counts of murder. Filipino police are rapidly collecting CCTV before it is deleted, aiming to "connect the dots" in this serious investigation.
