BMTC Adds 148 New Non-AC E-Buses to Its Fleet in Bengaluru

July 11, 2025

As part of its green transport initiatives, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) added 148 new non-AC electric buses to its fleet. Minister for Transport Ramalinga Reddy flagged off ten buses at the Shantinagar TTMC to mark the induction of these eco-friendly vehicles. These buses, operated by Tata Motors Ltd., aim to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and diesel consumption in the city. The buses will operate under the Gross Cost Contract model for 12 years. BMTC will provide conductors, while all maintenance work will be handled by the contracted company. The new fleet of e-buses is expected to prevent the emission of approximately 2.07 lakh kg of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and save around 77,000 liters of diesel daily. This initiative aligns with Bengaluru's sustainable urban mobility goals, with plans to deploy more AC and non-AC e-buses in the future.
