The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mysuru zone, has launched a Tree Census Project for Mysuru city. This project aims to create a detailed ward-wise tree count to help with environmental planning and sustainable growth. The census has started scientifically, with Mysuru Green Projects and the Centre for Advanced Learning, Mangaluru, along with academic partners, documenting trees methodically. So far, about 15,000 trees have been counted in two wards. Organisers estimate the city has over 2,00,000 trees in total. CII Mysuru now plans to expand the census with help from its member industries and institutions. The goal is to complete the city-wide count by March 2026 through phased efforts and collective participation from industry, institutions, and citizens. To start this, CII Mysuru will hold a Tree Census Project launch and Train-the-Trainer session on December 22 at IS Seminar Hall, Golden Jubilee Bhavan, JSS Science and Technology University from 5 pm to 6 pm. The session will cover a practical orientation and hands-on training with a mobile app for data collection. Savitha Mallappa, Convenor of CII Mysuru CSR and DEI Panel, said this initiative offers a chance for everyone to contribute to a greener and healthier Mysuru. She called on academic institutions and organisations to join and support the city-wide tree census.
