The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the civic body elections in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh’s capital, on December 15. Out of 16 wards where elections were held, BJP won 10 seats and secured four wards uncontested. Other winners in Itanagar include the Nationalist Congress Party with three wards, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) with two, and one Independent. However, in Pasighat, the State’s oldest urban centre, the BJP faced a setback. The People’s Party of Arunachal won five of the eight wards, BJP won two, and an Independent candidate secured one ward. State election officials said, "The counting of votes for the simultaneous panchayat election is continuing. We expect the results to come in from 27 districts by Sunday afternoon." Additionally, BJP won 58 of the State’s 245 zilla parishad seats uncontested. The elections were held for 16 wards of the Itanagar Municipal Corporation, eight wards of the Pasighat Municipal Corporation, and most of the 245 zilla parishads across the State.
