NUPPL Begins Mining at Pachwara South Coal Block in Jharkhand

Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture of NLC India Ltd. and UPRVUNL, has launched mining at Pachwara South Open Cast Project in Dumka district, Jharkhand. The Pachwara South Coal Block has a 9.0 Million Tonnes Per Annum capacity and an extractable reserve of 264.84 million tonnes. It will supply coal to NUPPL’s Ghatampur Thermal Power Station, ensuring sustainable and cost-effective fuel. Currently, overburden removal work has started, marking the beginning of systematic coal extraction. NLCIL’s current mining capacity is 50.1 MTPA, which will more than double to over 100 MTPA by 2030, thanks to Pachwara South. NLCIL Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli said, "The commencement of mining operations at Pachwara South is a proud moment for NLC India Limited and UPRVUNL. It reflects the company’s steady progress across all domains — mining, thermal power, and renewable energy towards nation-building. NLCIL continues to expand its mining capabilities through responsible and sustainable practices, ensuring a reliable fuel supply for power generation and supporting India’s economic growth."
