Railway Ministry hikes train fares by 1-2 paise per km from Dec 26, 2025

The Railway Ministry announced on Sunday, December 21, 2025, that train fares will rise starting December 26, 2025. Ordinary class tickets will increase by 1 paisa per km for journeys longer than 215 km. Non-AC classes on mail and express trains, plus AC classes across all trains, will see a 2 paise per km hike. Officials clarified, "There is no increase in the monthly season tickets of suburban trains and up to 215 km travel in ordinary class of other trains." The hike is expected to bring in ₹600 crores to the Railways by March 31, 2026. The Ministry also said the last fare increase in July 2025 has already generated ₹700 crore revenue so far.
