US Justice Department Reissues Epstein Documents After Removing Trump Photos Sparks Outcry
December 21, 2025
The US Justice Department has released a new Epstein-related document file with 'minimal redactions' following criticism from Democrats. The backlash came after photos of President Donald Trump were removed from earlier releases. The DOJ shared the update on X, linking a PDF and stating, “documents and photos will continue to be reviewed consistent with the law and with an abundance of caution for victims and their families.”
The controversy began when Democrats on the House Oversight Committee accused the DOJ of removing file 468. This file reportedly showed Trump with a woman in revealing clothing. At least 16 files disappeared from the DOJ website without explanation. The committee posted on X, “This photo, file 468, from the Epstein files that includes Donald Trump has apparently now been removed from the DOJ release.” They pressed Attorney General Pam Bondi, asking, “Is this true? What else is being covered up? We need transparency for the American public.”
File 468 was said to contain photos of a desk drawer filled with albums and documents. One image showed Trump in a white shirt standing with women, including one in a bikini. Another blurry photo reportedly showed Trump, Melania Trump, and Ghislaine Maxwell. The pictures were believed to be taken at Mar-a-Lago in February 2000.
The initial Epstein file release included thousands of heavily blacked-out documents featuring Epstein with figures like Bill Clinton, Kevin Spacey, Mick Jagger, and Michael Jackson. Many files lacked dates or clear context. Some suspects said the GOP administration was hiding names of predators possibly linked to the MAGA movement. The White House, however, defended the redactions as necessary to protect victim privacy.
Heavy traffic caused the DOJ website to crash on Friday, with thousands trying to access the files. The images include photos from Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse search in 2019. Some photos show large art pieces of nude women and one depicts a building.
DOJ Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche confirmed that more documents will be released soon. This follows criticism from Democrats like Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie, who said too few documents were disclosed and the DOJ missed a 30-day legal deadline.
Meanwhile, Trump has not publicly commented on the controversy despite promises of full transparency regarding the Epstein files.
