An adult tiger that frequently strayed into human settlements and attacked domestic animals was caught by the Kerala Forest department in Pathanamthitta district on Monday, December 22, 2025. Forest officials said the tiger's presence was reported in Kumbalathamon near Vadasserikara for two months following repeated attacks on buffaloes, dogs, and goats. "The tiger had killed animals belonging to farms and residences close to the forest area," an official said. On Sunday, a goat was killed by the tiger and its carcass found near the forest. Forest officials laid a cage trap using the goat carcass as bait. The tiger was caught early Monday morning when it returned to eat. The tiger will be shifted to a nearby forest station for a medical examination. Officials said, "A decision will later be taken on whether to release the animal back into the wild or keep it in captivity." They clarified that the tiger was not involved in any attacks on humans, though residents were alarmed due to frequent livestock killings.
