A doctor at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla allegedly assaulted a patient on Monday, December 22, 2025. A video showing the doctor punching the patient went viral, stirring public anger. Rahul Rao, Medical Superintendent of IGMC, said action has started against the accused doctor and a report is awaited. The victim filed a police complaint, and an FIR has been registered. In the clip, the patient lies on a hospital bed while the doctor punches him. The patient tries to defend himself by kicking. Two others attempt to separate them. The injury resulted in a nose injury to the patient. The victim, from Nerwa in Shimla district, said he came to the hospital for an endoscopy. After a doctor advised rest, the patient was asked to lie down on a vacant bed. The accused doctor allegedly misbehaved with him while he rested. When the patient asked for respect, the doctor assaulted him. The doctor claimed the patient misbehaved first. Following the incident, hundreds of people protested outside the hospital, demanding strict action. Authorities continue their probe.
