NIA Chief Sadanand Vasant Date Repatriated Early, Likely to Become Maharashtra DGP

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the early repatriation of National Investigation Agency (NIA) Director General Sadanand Vasant Date to Maharashtra. The government order was issued on Monday, December 22, 2025. Mr. Date is a 1990-batch IPS officer and is known as a 26/11 hero. He is the leading candidate to become the Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP), as Rashmi Shukla’s current term is ending on December 31. The official statement said, "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for premature repatriation of Shri Sadanand Vasant Date, IPS MH [1990] DG, NIA to his parent cadre with immediate effect."
