The seventh anniversary of the Oachira Raghavan Pillai Kathakali Asvadaka Samithi (ORKAS) will take place on December 28 at 4.30 p.m. ORKAS is a forum for Kathakali lovers in Oachira. The event will open with writer and speaker Poojappura Krishnan Nair. ORKAS president K.B. Radhakrishnan will lead the ceremony. Historian M.G. Sasibhooshan will give the keynote speech. Several awards will be presented. The Thottam Divakaran Namboothiri Award for lifetime work in Kathakali will go to veteran performer Thalavady Aravindan. Musician Kalanilayam Unnikrishnan will be honored with the Devanadam Award for excellence in temple arts. Radhika Varma will receive the Kakkottu Maheswaran Potti Award for best female artist. The Ananthapradeepam Award for outstanding behind-the-scenes work will be given to Thevalakkara Rajan. This celebration highlights the rich tradition and talent in Kathakali arts and honors those who have dedicated their lives to this classical dance form.
