Illegal Building on Land of Ambedkar Heir in Kalyan Demolished, Plot Reclaimed: Minister

July 14, 2025

State revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule disclosed in the Legislative Assembly that a multi-storey illegal building was erected on the property of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's heir, Yashwant Bhimrao Ambedkar, in Kalyan. The building named Tanishka Residency was unlawfully built on 3200 sq mt of land by Lalit Mahajan and others. Despite a notice and subsequent declaration of unauthorized construction, the building was demolished by the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation in June 2025. The land, currently registered in Prakash Yashwant Ambedkar's name, was handed back to the Ambedkar heirs after the demolition. However, suspicions of the land being usurped by a land mafia persist, leading to demands for strict action against officials involved and developers responsible for the illegal construction. The revelation has sparked outrage among lawmakers, calling for a thorough investigation and strict penalties for those accountable. The incident sheds light on the rampant illegal activities in land dealings, echoing broader issues of government land encroachment not just in Kalyan but across Mumbai.
