Over 27 lakh voters in Chhattisgarh, about 12.88% of the total, were excluded from the draft electoral roll published by the Election Commission on December 23, 2025. This was part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) happening in the state.
Chhattisgarh Chief Electoral Officer Yashwant Kumar said, “Out of 2,12,30,737 electors as on 27.10.2025, 1,84,95,920 electors have submitted their Enumeration Forms as on 18.12.2025 reflecting an overwhelming participation in the first phase of SIR.”
The Election Commission’s press release added that among the excluded voters, 1,79,043 were found enrolled at multiple places, 19,13,540 had shifted their residence, and 6,42,234 had died.
Genuine voters can still be added back during the Claims and Objections phase, running from December 23, 2025, to January 22, 2026, the release said.
Kumar credited the successful phase to coordinated efforts from 33 district election officers, 90 Electoral Registration Officers, 377 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, 734 Additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, and Booth Level Officers at 24,371 polling booths. Over 30,000 volunteers aided the process.
He added, “Field representatives of all seven recognised political parties, including their District Presidents, also actively participated, with as many as 38,846 Booth Level Agents appointed by them.”
The Election Commission has announced the SIR exercise in 12 states and union territories, which started on November 4. This revision has already been completed in Bihar.
