Uttar Pradesh Sees Record 1.40 Lakh RTE Admissions in Private Schools in 2025-26
December 24, 2025
On December 23, 2025, Uttar Pradesh announced a record rise in admissions to private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. Over 1.40 lakh children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections were admitted in the academic year 2025-26.
This marks a significant increase as the total number of students admitted under the scheme has more than doubled in the last five years. Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh noted, "Under the RTE Act, 25% of seats in unaided, recognised private schools are reserved for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections."
He added, "Due to effective implementation, a transparent selection process, and a robust digital system, the reach of the scheme has consistently expanded across the state."
The admission figures show steady growth: 61,403 children in 2021–22; 70,406 in 2022–23; over 1 lakh to 1,00,249 in 2023–24; then 1,13,991 in 2024–25; and now 1,40,007 in 2025–26. The government clarified that seat allocation happens school-wise, strictly following the number of reserved seats and applications received.
This rise in admissions highlights the positive impact of the Yogi Adityanath government's education policies and better implementation of the RTE Act.
