An explosion hit the Silver Lake Nursing Home in Bristol Township, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia, on Tuesday around 2 pm. Officials say it may have been a gas explosion. Ruth Miller from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency said, "We understand that there are people trapped inside." Emergency teams raced to the scene to evacuate residents and find anyone missing. Videos on social media showed fire trucks, ambulances, and police cars with flashing lights as flames and black smoke poured from the building. Windows were shattered and part of the roof had fallen in. The Upper Makefield Township police called it a "mass casualty incident" and warned locals to avoid the area due to heavy emergency activity. Bristol Township police Lt. Sean Cosgrove said, "I do not know if everyone is accounted for or not yet. I’m not aware of any critical injuries but there definitely were injuries." The nursing home had its last fire safety check in September 2024 and has a one-star rating for health inspections, described as "much below average" by Medicare.gov. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed he is updated about the event, tweeting, "My Administration is in contact with local officials and first responders on the ground." The cause of the blast is still under investigation. No final count of injuries or deaths has been released.
