Six Arrested in Manipur Including Militants and Arms Dealers Amid Ethnic Violence

Six people have been arrested in Manipur's valley districts, including two militants and two alleged arms dealers, police said on December 24, 2025. One active member of the banned group Prepak (G-5) was caught in Keibi Heikak Mapan, Imphal East district. A 45-year-old member of the banned Peoples' Liberation Army was detained from his home in Kakching Khunou, Kakching district. Police also arrested two individuals on December 23 after recovering arms and ammunition in Porompat Police Station area, Imphal East. Additionally, two alleged arms smugglers were held in Keibi Awang Leikai Yaibirel, Imphal East. Manipur has seen ongoing search operations since ethnic violence erupted two years ago. The clashes between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups have killed over 260 people and left thousands homeless since May 2023. Following this unrest, the central government imposed President’s rule in Manipur on February 13 after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned. The state assembly is currently in suspended animation with its term running until 2027.
