Tourists and locals rushed to Thalakundha near Udhagamandalam to see ground frost covering the area. The stunning sight went viral online, sparking a tourism boom in the Nilgiris last week. However, the Forest department has stopped visitors from entering Thalakundha. The area is protected forest land and a catchment for the Kamaraj Sagar Dam. Officials warn the place is risky due to wildlife and deep water spots. "People unaware of the risks can potentially injure themselves or even drown," said a Forest department official. Despite clear warning signs, many ignored the rules. To ensure safety, the department has deployed staff to monitor and prevent tourist entry. The move aims to protect both visitors and the forest environment. The Forest department issued the caution on December 23, 2025.
