Truck Hits Sleeper Bus on NH48 in Karnataka; 11 Feared Dead in Fiery Crash

More than 11 people were feared dead early Thursday morning after a container truck hit a luxury sleeper bus on National Highway 48 near Hiriyur in Karnataka's Chitradurga district. The bus, carrying 32 passengers on its way to Gokarna, caught fire after the collision. East Zone Inspector General of Police Ravikanthe Gowda said most of the dead were burnt alive inside the bus. The bus driver and cleaner escaped the accident. However, the truck driver and its cleaner died. Reports indicate the truck driver's negligence caused the crash. The driver jumped a road divider, lost control, and collided head-on with the oncoming bus. This tragic accident happened on the busy highway connecting Bengaluru with Pune and Mumbai.
