Noted Hindustani classical vocalist and music teacher Ashok Huggannavar, aged 64, passed away in Hubballi early Thursday. He is survived by his wife Veena, a teacher, and son Vinayak, a scientist and vocalist. Born in Yaraguppi, Dharwad district, Huggannavar was a gold medalist in MA music and held a postgraduate degree in Botany. He taught music at MPE Society's SDM College in Honnavar for many years before retiring in 2021 and settling in Hubballi. He trained for nearly 12 years under Pandit Lingaraj Buva Yaraguppi of the Gwalior gharana and earned praise for his distinct style. Huggannavar was a member of the Karnataka Sangeet Nrutya Academy and received several awards, including 'Karnataka Kalashri', 'Mansur Award', and 'Ragashree'. He performed at various national music festivals during his career.
