Vemulawada, Rajanna Sircilla: Stray dogs ran wild and bit 21 people in just 24 hours from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning. The first attack happened late Wednesday at Jatara grounds, where a rabid dog bit eight devotees. More incidents followed, with at least 13 others, including locals and devotees, also getting bitten. All injured received first-aid and anti-rabies vaccines at the Government Area Hospital in Vemulawada. Four cases were serious enough to be sent to the District Headquarters Hospital in Sircilla for better care. This biting spree has sparked fresh calls for urgent action against the stray dog problem in the temple town. Vemulawada, also known as ‘Dakshin Kashi’, is busy with devotees preparing for the Medaram Sammakka-Sarakka jatara from January 28 to 31, 2026, making safety a big concern.
