Hyderabad lit up with festive cheer on Christmas Eve. Churches across the city saw a clear rise in attendance as families and friends gathered for prayers. Fireworks painted the night sky, splashing vibrant colors over the neighborhoods. Christmas, marking the birth of Jesus Christ, inspired joy beyond church walls. “Christmas is a time to pause and remember the message of love and forgiveness. Coming to church with family and friends makes the celebration feel complete,” said Christopher Adams, 25, from Sun City, Bandlaguda. Cafes, malls, and tourist spots joined the celebration with themed decorations. One mall in Uppal featured a giant Santa Claus on its rooftop, impossible to miss. Bright Christmas trees appeared at busy junctions, and street vendors thrived selling decorations and lights. Evening strolls turned into festive shopping adventures. “There is a different kind of peace during the midnight service. No matter how busy the year has been, Christmas reminds us to start again with hope,” shared Steve Abraham, 31, attending prayers in Kompally. The Hope Unlimited Church’s performances at Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam, Nampally, drew large crowds with lively Christmas hymns. “For us, it is not just about decorations or cake. It is about celebrating the birth of Christ and sharing joy with others,” said Ruth Ann, 55, from Mehdipatnam. Local businesses added to the festive spirit by decorating public places and giving out sweets. Plum cake makers reported a jump in bulk orders, and street sellers offered cake hampers paired with Santa hats to spread extra cheer. On Christmas Day, festive attire filled church premises as people patiently queued for services, exchanged greetings, and reflected on peace and compassion tied to the holiday.
