On December 24, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police seized 1,60,000 banned Yaba tablets worth about ₹40 crore in Jiribam district. Yaba tablets, known as "crazy medicine," contain methamphetamine and caffeine and are highly addictive. One person was caught in the operation and handed over to Jiribam police for investigation, the Assam Rifles said on December 26. In a related raid in Imphal West district, security forces arrested two people, including a 44-year-old active cadre of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup. Ammunition and explosives were also recovered. The arrests followed searches in the rented house at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai and an associate's residence, police officials confirmed. Manipur has seen rising ethnic violence over two years, with more than 260 killed and thousands homeless since May 2023 between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups. Following Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's resignation, the Centre imposed President’s rule on February 13, and the State assembly remains under suspended animation.
