December 26, 2025
DHAKA: Md Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, special assistant (ministry of home affairs) to chief adviser Muhammad Yunus, resigned amid rising violence in Bangladesh. The unrest followed the death of radical leader Sharif Osman Hadi, who died six days after being shot in the head on December 18. Reports say Chowdhury was "asked" to resign after mobs attacked media, minorities, cultural groups, and political workers across major cities, including Dhaka. Officials confirmed his resignation has been accepted. On the same day, Omar Osman, brother of Sharif Osman Hadi, accused a faction within Yunus's interim government of planning the killing to disrupt the national elections set for February 12.
