Mysuru's Yoga Narasimhaswamy temple will distribute more than 2 lakh laddus as 'prasad' on January 1, 2026, welcoming the New Year with sweetness. The laddus, made to match the famous Tirupati flavor, will be handed out from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the temple entrance. Bhashyam Swami, the temple founder and Sanskrit scholar, said that special religious rites will be held, and the temple along with the deity will be adorned with flowers from Srirangam, Tamil Nadu. This year, about 10,000 large laddus weighing 2 kg each and nearly two lakh smaller ones of 150 gm each will be distributed free. Temple officer Srinivasan shared that laddu making started on December 20 and will continue till December 31, involving 100 workers. Huge amounts of ingredients are used, including 100 quintals of groundnut flour, 200 quintals of sugar, 10,000 liters of edible oil, plus nuts, cardamom, jackfruit, and other special items. The laddu distribution began in 1994 after Kannada matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar suggested it during his visit in 1993, noting how tough it was for ordinary devotees to get Tirupati laddu prasads. He also contributed financially and wished the tradition to continue yearly as per his family's desire. Since then, numbers have increased from 1,000 laddus to nearly two lakh. The laddu prasad is still sent to Dr. Rajkumar's family every year since the start, temple authorities confirmed.
