China Sanctions 20 US Defense Firms Over $10 Billion Arms Sale to Taiwan
December 27, 2025
China announced sweeping sanctions on Friday targeting 20 US defense-related firms and 10 senior executives. This move freezes their assets in China and bans local business with them. The action comes after Washington's approval of an arms package worth over $10 billion for Taiwan.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said the sanctions take effect immediately under China’s anti-foreign sanctions law. Companies like Northrop Grumman, Boeing, L3Harris Maritime Services, and others are hit. Ten executives, including Palmer Luckey, founder of Anduril Industries, face asset restrictions and activity bans in China.
Beijing condemned the US arms sales as a serious violation of the one-China principle and key China-US agreements. The Foreign Ministry stated, "Anyone who attempts to cross the line and make provocations on the Taiwan question will be met with China’s firm response. Any company or individual who engages in arms sales to Taiwan will pay the price for the wrongdoing."
China urged the US to stop arming Taiwan and avoid raising tensions in the Taiwan Strait. It also warned of continuing "resolute measures" to protect its sovereignty and security.
The US State Department’s approved arms package includes medium-range missiles, howitzers, drones, and more. The deal is reportedly worth $11.1 billion and includes multiple delivery packages, some linked to a special Taiwanese defense budget currently under legislative review.
China has long opposed US arms sales to Taiwan, viewing them as a threat to regional peace and its territorial integrity.
