The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls began in West Bengal on Saturday, December 27, 2025. People lined up at 3,234 centres statewide for the hearings, according to a senior official. About 32 lakh ‘unmapped’ voters, who cannot link themselves to the 2002 electoral roll, are called for hearings in this first phase. The hearings started at 11 a.m. and are overseen by 4,500 micro observers. An Election Commission official said voters can submit any of 12 recognised documents as proof of identity and address. "However, the Aadhaar card will not be accepted as a standalone document," he noted. For people aged 85 or more, officials will visit their homes to complete the process, avoiding the need to come to camps. Only authorised people like Election Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Registration Officers (AROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and observers are allowed at the centres. "People are lining up in large numbers before every camp," said the official from the State Chief Electoral Officer's office. No changes have been allowed after finalising hearing centres to ensure transparency and accuracy. On December 16, 2025, the Election Commission published the State’s draft electoral rolls after SIR, deleting names of over 58 lakh voters due to death, migration, or non-submission of forms.
