Gulf Nations Deport Thousands of Indian Workers in 2025 Over Visa Violations
December 27, 2025
In 2025, Gulf countries tightened rules on migrant workers, deporting many Indian nationals. Saudi Arabia led with over 11,000 deportations, mostly low-skilled laborers in construction, domestic work, and caregiving. Many faced deportation due to visa overstays, work permit problems, and misinformed breaches. Bheema Reddy, vice-chairman of Telangana’s NRI advisory committee, said, "Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia attract a huge influx of Indian workers, many of whom are low-skilled and come through agents. In the pursuit of better earnings, minor violations of local laws can quickly escalate into deportation cases." The UAE deported 1,469 Indians, and Bahrain sent home 764 workers. Common issues included visa overstays, working without valid permits, and breaking labor regulations. Naga Bharani of Telangana Overseas Manpower Company stressed, "Indian workers must track their visa timelines carefully and understand local laws. Simple awareness and timely extensions can prevent deportation." Recruitment agents in India play a big role in many cases. False promises about jobs or salaries often leave workers vulnerable. Reddy added, "Many cases arise from workers being lured by promises of better pay or conditions, only to face legal consequences when regulations are breached. Education before departure is crucial."
