On December 23, a 46-year-old man was accused of touching a woman passenger inappropriately on a Namma Metro train. The woman, who boarded at Sri Sathya Sai Hospital station, said the man sat next to her a few stops later and tried to touch her, making her uncomfortable. She moved away, but he moved closer again. When her stop came, she slapped him on the train and again after getting off. She said the man was drunk. Metro officials advised her to file a police complaint. The accused reportedly pleaded for mercy, saying she was like his daughter and that he would not harm her. She took him to the police station but claimed the police showed “sympathy” towards him. A senior West Division police officer told The Hindu the woman refused to file an FIR and shared her written complaint saying, “Take necessary action against the person so that he does not repeat the same, but I do not want any FIR on the issue.” Police have registered a non-cognisable report in the matter.
