FBI Director Kash Patel announced on Friday that the FBI's old headquarters, the J. Edgar Hoover Building in Washington, will be permanently shut. The agency will move its workforce to the recently vacated US Agency for International Development building, known as the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. Patel said, "After more than 20 years of failed attempts, we finalised a plan to permanently close the FBI's Hoover headquarters and move the workforce into a safe, modern facility." He added that this move will save taxpayer funds and better meet the FBI's needs. The Hoover Building, opened in 1975, is known for its brutalist design but many criticized it as outdated and unsafe. The plan to relocate the FBI has been debated for years. Moving to the Ronald Reagan Building keeps the FBI close to the Justice Department, White House, and other key federal offices. This decision is a setback for Maryland, which was promised the new headquarters in 2023 after a long search. (Bloomberg)
