JSW Foundation organised a National Farmers Day event and model farm demonstration on Sunday in Taluru village, Sandur taluk, Ballari district. The programme focused on integrated farming and sustainable agriculture. The star of the event was farmer T. Veeresh, who grows 23 crops including betel leaf, banana, and onion. His farm is a success story and a model for others. Peddanna Beedala, South Zonal Head of JSW Foundation, said they are promoting integrated farming with 300 farmers across 10 villages. "Farmers have already received initial training. In the coming week, we will distribute soil health report cards, organic fertilisers, seeds, vermicompost kits, 20 Giriraj native chicks, and essential plants for one or two acres per farmer, along with hands-on training," he said, urging farmers to take full advantage. Experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hagari, guided farmers on farming techniques suitable for Sandur’s soil and climate, including soil and water management, pest control, and crop selection. Senior scientists P. Palaih and S. Ravi answered questions and gave practical advice. Hanamantappa, Manager of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative, Ballari, led a farm tour explaining crop layouts and real-time integrated farming methods. About 100 farmers, JSW Foundation staff, and partner representatives attended the programme, making it a day full of learning and hope for local farmers.
