Indian Railways to Add 5 New Platforms at Mysuru Station by 2028
December 29, 2025
Indian Railways is upgrading Mysuru Railway Station to meet rising passenger demand. The station currently has six platforms that are nearly full. Under the expansion project, five more platforms will be added. The project cost has risen from ₹360 crore to nearly ₹493.03 crore.
Senior divisional commercial manager Girish Dharmaraj Kalakunda said the work is underway. It involves demolishing old railway quarters at Yadavgiri to clear space for new platforms, pit lines, and other facilities. Some of the old quarters have already been demolished, and new type-two quarters are being built to shift families.
The project is planned in phases. The first phase, costing ₹214.70 crore, includes removing service buildings, staff quarters, and minor bridges. The second phase will focus on laying new tracks, signal systems, and telecommunications.
The target completion for the entire project is 2028. This expansion will increase capacity, improve train handling, and allow more long-distance and suburban trains. It will also offer passengers better access and modern amenities.
Mysuru Railway currently manages 56 pairs of trains daily and weekly. The daily passenger count is around 55,000 but nearly doubles during holidays and the Dasara festival.
Officials say the upgrade aligns with Mysuru's growth and the need for improved rail connectivity. Plans also include upgrading signalling systems and adding multi-tracking to boost train maintenance and sectional capacity. This work will help eliminate current infrastructure limits and support more train services in the future.
