Farmers of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene protested in Kanakagiri, Koppal district. They dumped red gram on the road demanding a higher minimum support price (MSP) and incentives from the State government. The State currently buys red gram at ₹8,000 per quintal as fixed by the Centre. Kalyana Karnataka divisional president Pampanna Naik said, "Procuring red gram at ₹8,000 per quintal is inadequate as it fails to cover even production cost." He demanded MSP be raised to ₹8,500 per quintal and an additional ₹4,000 incentive per quintal. Farmer leader Sharanappa Doddamani urged attention to farmers’ issues. He criticized delays in installing crest gates at the Tungabhadra dam and warned about water shortages for the rabi crop. "The absence of water has forced many farmers into distress and they are migrating in search of work," he said. The protesters also asked for crop loan waivers, immediate release of irrigation water, and construction of a permanent Agriculture Department office building. They submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah through the Tahsildar. The protest took place on Monday, December 29, 2025.
