DRDO Successfully Tests Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket With 120 km Range
December 29, 2025
On December 29, 2025, DRDO successfully tested the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR–120) at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur. Earlier that day, the Defence Acquisition Council, led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved procurement plans worth ₹79,000 crore, including the LRGR-120. The rocket was flight-tested for its maximum range of 120 km, performing all planned in-flight maneuvers and achieving a direct hit on the designated target with textbook precision. All tracking instruments at ITR monitored the rocket’s full flight, confirming its performance. The LRGR-120 was designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment with support from HEMRL, DRDL, and RCI. The trial was coordinated by ITR and the Proof & Experimental Establishment. It was launched from the existing Pinaka launcher, proving that the launcher can fire multiple Pinaka rocket variants with different ranges. Congratulating the success, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, the design and development of long-range guided rockets would significantly boost the armed forces’ capabilities and called it a “game changer.” DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V. Kamat also praised the teams for meeting all mission goals.
