Representatives from Myanmar's rebel groups in Karen and Arakan states voiced their disappointment with India's position on the country's election that started on December 28, 2025. Speaking at the Centre for Policy Research on December 29, leaders from the Karenni National Progressive Party, Anti-Sham Election Campaign Committee, and All Arakan Students’ and Youths’ Congress said they hope the UK and EU will not recognize the election results. Ko Ting Oo, leader of the Anti-Sham Election Campaign Committee, said, "We have been engaging and talking with the international community. We have received a positive response from the U.K. and the EU that they will not recognise the election. We are waiting for the Indian government to clarify their position, and overall, we are not satisfied with the Indian position." India has called for an inclusive election in Myanmar, but the Ethnic Armed Organisations and the exiled National Unity Government want India to apply more pressure on the military junta to ensure true inclusiveness. The rebel representatives also accused China of encouraging the military regime and interfering in Myanmar's internal affairs. They expect China to recognize the election outcome. The rebels requested India to offer platforms for talks among Myanmar's main stakeholders. This move aims to advance a consultative process during the ongoing three-phase polling set to continue on January 11 and 25, 2026.
