Bengaluru 2025: Tragic Stampede, €7.11 Cr Robbery, Gold Smuggling Shake City

Bengaluru's year 2025 was marked by shocking events.
On June 4, after Royal Challengers Bengaluru's first IPL win in 18 years, a massive stampede at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium killed 11 people under 40 and injured 56. Officials clashed over blame; the Police Commissioner was suspended. Questions arose about hosting big events at this stadium.
On November 19, nine men, including police constable Annappa Naik, were arrested for stealing ₹7.11 crore from a cash van near Siddapura. The police recovered ₹7.1 crore and revealed insider roles from police and private firms.
In March, Kannada actor Ranya Rao was caught trying to smuggle 14.8 kg of gold worth over ₹12 crore from Dubai at Kempegowda Airport. The case stirred political talk with opposition alleging minister links. The Congress pointed to land deals under the previous BJP regime.
April saw chilling murders. Surgeon Mahendra Reddy allegedly killed his wife Kruthika M. Reddy by injecting excess anaesthetic during treatment at her parents’ home. Her sister’s insistence on tests led to his arrest.
In Rajajinagar, Balamurugan shot his estranged wife four times after divorce proceedings. He surrendered at the police station minutes later.
Police seized drugs worth ₹160 crore in 2025, filed 1,078 NDPS cases, and arrested 1,543 people including 52 foreigners. They seized 1,446.75 kg of drugs.
Cyber crimes dropped to 13,000 cases but losses rose to ₹2,038 crore. Over 80% happened in Bengaluru, with recoveries below 10%.
