December 30, 2025
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) standing committee has approved budget proposals totaling ₹11,460 crore for the financial year 2026-27. This is just a slight increase over this year’s revised estimates of ₹11,010 crore. Out of the total, ₹2,260 crore is allocated for zones formed by the newly merged areas. Despite the merger, revenue is projected at only ₹2,245 crore, about 10% higher than 2024-25 collections and less than 7% up from this year's revised target. Revenue from the Town Planning wing is expected at ₹1,200 crore, resulting in total budgeted revenue of ₹4,651 crore, close to the current year's ₹4,620 crore target. Assigned revenues from other departments show a sharp rise from ₹81.4 crore this year to ₹330 crore next year. State government grants increase from ₹3,072 crore to ₹3,500 crore, while central government grants fall from ₹1,227 crore to ₹719 crore. On spending, the highest allotment of ₹1,340 crore goes to road projects under H-CITI. Another ₹1,050 crore is set for H-CITI roads, road maintenance, and drains. Debt servicing reduces from ₹2,640 crore to ₹2,215 crore. The housing budget is reduced from ₹150 crore to ₹100 crore. The budget will now be presented to the council’s general body and sent to the state government for approval. The standing committee also approved 15 other agenda items and seven non-agenda items, including a proposed Chandigarh and Ahmedabad tour for corporators and officials.
