Choosing an engineering stream just because it is popular might not work well, say experts in a recent webinar. They explained that engineering fields change fast. What is popular now, like Computer Science, might lose importance by the time students finish their degrees. John Bosco Balaguru Rayappan, dean at SASTRA University, said, "By 2030, there will be a demand for an estimated 30 lakh engineers with relevant skills." He added core subjects like civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering still offer great career chances if students gain hands-on experience and soft skills. R. Narayanan from KPMG India highlighted the growing role of AI in industries and stressed the need for "smart and sustainable engineering" to meet expectations. Anamika Tiwari Chada, HR head at Staples India, told students to pick careers matching their skills and interests and to "use AI with caution as a tool for assistance and not as a substitute." Sowmya Suresh of HCL Tech pointed to e-commerce, digital marketing, and renewable energy as fast-growing sectors thanks to technology. The webinar was hosted by SASTRA Deemed University and The Hindu Education Plus as part of their Career X for Gen Z series. Watch it at https://newsth.live/THSASEY
