Dense Fog Shrouds Delhi, Air Quality Slightly Improves but Stays Very Poor

Dense fog covered Delhi early Tuesday morning, December 30, 2025. Visibility dropped sharply in many locations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a 'yellow' alert till 9 a.m. for the fog.
At 7:30 a.m., visibility at Safdarjung was just 100 meters but improved to 200 meters by 8:30 a.m. Palam saw moderate fog with visibility around 300 meters at 8:30 a.m., stated the IMD.
The air quality index (AQI) improved slightly to 388 on Tuesday morning. It was previously at 401 on Monday, which is in the 'severe' pollution category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) Sameer app, 16 monitoring stations showed 'severe' pollution, and 21 reported 'very poor' air quality.
Jahangirpuri and Anand Vihar recorded the worst pollution, with AQI levels reaching 451.
CPCB classifies AQI as follows: 0-50 good, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor, and 401-500 severe.
Delhi’s air quality is expected to stay in the ‘very poor’ range on December 30 and 31. It may worsen to 'severe' on January 1, 2026, says the Air Quality Early Warning System. The outlook for the next six days shows air quality remaining ‘very poor’.
The minimum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 9.4°C in the city with an IMD 'orange' alert forecasting very dense fog throughout the day. Maximum temperature is expected near 21°C. Humidity will stay close to 100%.
Other minimum temperatures recorded were 8.1°C at Palam, 8.6°C at the Ridge, 9.2°C at Lodhi Road, 9.4°C at Safdarjung, and 9.6°C at Ayanagar. No rain was reported in the last 24 hours.
Residents are urged to take precautions amid fog and poor air conditions.
