The Cyberabad Traffic Police have issued strict rules for New Year’s Eve traffic to ensure safety. From the evening of December 31 to early January 1, construction and debris trucks are banned inside the Outer Ring Road between 10:30 p.m. and 2 a.m. Police will begin heavy drunk driving checks from 8 p.m. across Cyberabad. Special cameras will catch wrong-side driving, speeding, signal jumping, rash driving, and riding without helmets. Cab, taxi, and autorickshaw operators must wear uniforms and carry valid papers. Refusing rides will lead to penalties under Section 178 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. People can report issues via the Cyberabad Traffic Police WhatsApp number 94906-17346 with vehicle details and location. Bars, pubs, and clubs are warned to stop patrons from driving drunk. They must educate customers about drunk driving risks and arrange safe travel options. Police will seize vehicles if drivers fail to show valid documents. Minor offences or driving without a licence mean vehicle detention and prosecution. Drunk driving offenders face legal action under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, with fines up to ₹10,000 and/or imprisonment up to six months for the first offense. Repeat offenses get a ₹15,000 fine and/or two years in jail. Licences will be suspended for three months for first offences and permanently revoked for repeat offenders. If drunk driving causes death, a criminal case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, will be filed, and the accused arrested. Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty emphasized cooperation during checks and warned that obstructing police work invites legal consequences.
