Hyderabad Airport Hits 100 Destinations, Grows Stronger Than Ever
December 30, 2025
Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has reached a big milestone before 2025 ends. It now connects to 100 destinations. This includes 74 domestic and 26 international routes. The 100th destination joined with the launch of flights from the new Navi Mumbai International Airport. On Christmas Day, December 25, IndiGo flight 6E 882 was the first to land from Navi Mumbai at Hyderabad. The airport started commercial flights on March 23, 2008. It was India’s first greenfield airport built under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The first official flight was Lufthansa flight LH 753 from Frankfurt. Although two SpiceJet flights landed earlier, the Lufthansa flight was welcomed first as planned. RGIA has also made history by hosting large rare aircraft. The Antonov An-225 Mriya, the world’s largest plane, landed here in May 2016. It was later destroyed in the Russia–Ukraine war. The airport also handled the Antonov An-124 Ruslan and the Airbus Beluga, known as the 'Whale of the Sky.' Passenger numbers have soared, from 6.2 million in 2008 to 29 million in 2025. This growth shows Hyderabad's rise as a key aviation hub in India.
