The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) has introduced a new digital exam option for visually impaired students. Starting this year, students registered for II PUC and SSLC exams can write their papers using computers. This move follows CBSE's similar step for Classes 10 and 12 exams from 2023-24. Gopalakrishna H.N., Director of KSEAB, said, “Many students with visual impairment in the State wanted to write SSLC and II PUC exams through computers, and it has been decided to allow this facility from this year. Students who want to write the exams through computers have been allowed to register separately. Appropriate arrangements will be made for the exams as per the number of students.” The computer use is only for typing answers. Students must bring their own computers or laptops. These devices will have no internet connections, checked and monitored by the Computer teacher and Centre Superintendent. As per the circular, requests for this facility require a medical recommendation. Only certain software should be installed: Windows 10 or 11, MS Office, Multilingual Nudi 6.5, Math cad, and NAB-approved apps. The reader-cum-scribe reads the exam questions aloud, and the student types the answers. If computer troubles arise during the exam, the reader-cum-scribe can write the answers as the student dictates. The Chief Superintendent will allow this and may provide extra time. Printers will be arranged at exam centers so students can print their typed answers and submit hard copies. This new approach aims to help visually impaired students show their knowledge comfortably and fairly in Karnataka's key school exams.
