Bajendra Biswas, a Hindu worker in Bangladesh, was shot dead on Monday while on duty at a garment factory in Mymensingh. The accused, fellow Ansar member Noman Mia, has been arrested, ANI reported citing local media. The shooting happened around 6.30 pm at Sultana Sweaters Limited in the Mehrabari area. Around 20 Ansar members were on duty when Noman Mia allegedly pressed a shotgun against Bajendra Biswas’s thigh and fired. Bajendra was rushed to Upazila Health Complex, where he was declared dead. APC Md Azahar Ali, an eyewitness and Ansar member on duty, said, "Noman Mia and Bajendra Das were sitting together in my room. Suddenly, Noman Mia pressed the shotgun against Bajendra Das's thigh and said, 'Shall I shoot?' and then fired. After that, Noman fled the scene." Azahar also said there was no argument or dispute seen before the shooting. This incident adds to recent attacks targeting minorities in Bangladesh. Earlier this week, Amrit Mondal was killed over extortion allegations, following the murder of factory worker Dipu Chandra Das. The killing of Dipu led to strong criticism and concern over minority safety in Bangladesh. Bangladesh's interim government condemned Dipu's killing, stating, "We wholeheartedly condemn lynching of a Hindu man in Mymensingh. There is no space for such violence in new Bangladesh. The perpetrators of this heinous crime will not be spared." India also expressed concern on Saturday. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “The unremitting hostilities against minorities in Bangladesh… are a matter of grave concern.”
