Sree Sankaracharya University Syndicate members have raised concerns about the proposed cricket stadium by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) on the campus in Kalady. They pointed out that the university will not earn any revenue, even though KCA will have free land use rights for 33 years. Around six acres of prime campus land near Kochi airport would be used for the project. The Syndicate discussed these issues during a meeting reviewing KCA's revised master plan submitted on December 19. Syndicate member K. Unnikrishnan, former Principal of Government Sanskrit College, said, "The draft agreement lacked clarity on whether the university will receive a share of the revenue earned by the KCA through the utilisation of the stadium and its allied facilities." He suggested exploring central schemes like 'Khelo India' to improve sports infrastructure instead. The university clarified that there is no sale or transfer of land to KCA. The cricket association will only get land use rights. KCA will build multi-sports facilities including a football ground with an athletic track and will construct a sports hostel to hand over to the university, according to a December 27 official release.
