Shivamogga police conducted a special drive against ganja use and sale over the last two months. On December 30, Shivamogga Superintendent of Police G.K. Mithun Kumar told the media that in November alone, police booked 82 cases. Among them, 74 were related to ganja consumption involving 76 accused persons. Additionally, eight cases against 12 people involved ganja sale and cultivation. Police recovered 4.5 kg of ganja and 26 gm of MDMA worth over ₹4.91 lakh that month. In December, the drive continued with 95 cases registered. Of those, 86 were for ganja consumption and nine for supply and sale. The police seized nearly 9 kg of ganja worth over ₹4.5 lakh. The police intensified the operation after reports showed rising ganja use in the district. This drive aims to curb drug abuse and sales to keep the community safe.
