Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has virtually begun the upgrade of the Sankaraguptam Major Drain in Konaseema district to fix serious drainage issues for coconut farmers. Joining from Mangalagiri, he was with Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu. Local leaders and officials also took part in the event at Shankaraguptam. This ₹20.77 crore project aims to improve drainage and protect thousands of coconut trees damaged by waterlogging. Pawan Kalyan recalled seeing the damage himself in Razole. "Nearly one lakh coconut trees had been damaged," he said, highlighting the urgent need for action. The issue was quickly brought to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and plans were set. The work started within 35 days, faster than the 45-day target. The project will cover drain stretches from 8.5 km to 16.5 km and strengthen embankments up to 14.5 km on both sides. Pawan Kalyan praised the quick support from the Chief Minister. He underlined the ruling coalition's focus on farmers' welfare. Similar drainage upgrades across East Godavari could cost about ₹4,000 crore. This effort is expected to give quick relief to many coconut farmers and protect their livelihoods by preventing future drainage problems in Konaseema.
