Protesters in Kalaburagi Demand Probe into ₹5,300 Crore Corruption in Kalyana Karnataka Board
December 31, 2025
Large-scale corruption charges shook the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB) as protesters marched through Kalaburagi on Tuesday. Members of AHINDA Chintakara Vedike and the Kalyana Karnataka 371(J) Constitutional Amendment Agitation Committee staged a bull procession. They moved from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk to the KKRDB office, raising slogans against the State government. Protesters accused the government of ignoring irregularities in regional development projects.
In a symbolic act, the bull was garlanded during the procession to highlight "blind approval" of corrupt practices. Vedike president Saibanna Jamadar revealed that nearly ₹5,300 crore in bills had been cleared since 2023. These payments were made without mandatory inspections, quality checks, or verifying if work was complete on the ground.
Mr. Jamadar said, "Bills have been cleared without conducting mandatory inspections, quality assessments or physical verification of completed works." He further added, "Payments have been released even in cases where works either remain incomplete or have not been executed on the ground."
He emphasized the lack of third-party inspections or audits before bill approvals, violating the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (KTPP) Act. The protesters demanded the immediate suspension of officials who approved these payments. They also called for a high-level inquiry into the Board's operations. If action is not taken soon, the vedike warned that their protest will intensify in the coming days.
