The National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, its major achievements for the year. The agency recorded an impressive conviction rate of over 92%. A significant highlight was the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, from the United States. NIA also arrested several terrorists linked to the Pahalgam and Delhi attacks, filing chargesheets against seven accused from banned groups Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF). In total, across 55 cases, the agency made 276 arrests, including 67 in jihadi cases, 74 in Left-Wing Extremism cases, and arrests in northeast insurgency, pro-Khalistan activities, gangster-related crimes, and others. The agency secured 66 convictions and filed chargesheets on 320 accused persons during the year. It attached 12 assets connected to absconding terrorists and criminals. A standout case involved the deportation of gangster Anmol Bishnoi, brother of Lawrence Bishnoi, from the US. He had been on the run since 2022. The NIA took on investigations against Left-Wing Extremism, charging 34 members and leaders, and arrested around 200 accused in terror and organized crime network raids. The NIA specifically targeted networks involving designated Khalistani terrorists like Goldy Brar to dismantle their operations. It also made headway in human trafficking cases involving youth exploited by transnational syndicates and cross-border trafficking linked to Bangladesh and Myanmar. Cases of Indian youth trapped in cyberslavery in Laos and Cambodia’s Golden Triangle region saw notable progress. Other breakthroughs included probing insurgent groups ULFA-I and NSCN-IM in the Northeast and solving targeted killings of several individuals such as Kerala Professor T.J. Joseph and others. The agency secured convictions in the Pakistan-linked 2019 Visakhapatnam Navy espionage case and arrested suspects involved in fake currency operations across states. Technologically, the NIA introduced a Lost/Looted Recovered Government Weapons Database and an Organised Crime Network Database to boost real-time information sharing among security forces. It held an advanced workshop on cryptocurrency investigations to empower law enforcement against cyber crimes. Infrastructure upgrades continued to strengthen the agency’s fight against terror and crime. The NIA described 2025 as a year of "major success" and reaffirmed its commitment to keeping the nation secure.
